Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use accountantinsussex.com or contact us, why we collect it, who we share it with and what your rights are. It was last updated on 6 November 2026.

Who we are

Accountant in Sussex is an information and enquiry service run by Hesham Barr, who is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. We are registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office under registration number ZA406219.

  • Post: 30 Juniper Close, Brighton BN41 2GS
  • Email: info@accountantinsussex.com
  • Phone: 07807 464 157 (for privacy questions) or 01273 115520 (for enquiries)

What we collect

  • When you send an enquiry: your name, email address, phone number if you give it, your town, who the work is for, what you need, your message, the page you sent it from and the date and time.
  • When you phone or email us: your name, contact details and what you tell us. Calls to 01273 115520 may be answered by a call handling service on our behalf, which takes a note of your name, number and message.
  • When you browse the site: your cookie choice, stored in your own browser. If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics collects information about how you use the site, such as the pages you visit, your approximate location and the type of device you use. See our cookie policy.

Please do not send us bank details, your National Insurance number, your UTR or other financial or tax documents. We do not need them, and an accountant will ask for what they need directly.

How we use it, and our lawful basis

  • To read and reply to your enquiry, including checking details with you. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in responding to people who contact us, and it is what you would expect when you get in touch.
  • To pass your enquiry to a local accountant who may be able to help. We only do this with your consent, which you give by ticking the box on the enquiry form or by telling us when we speak. You can withdraw your consent at any time before we pass it on.
  • To keep a record of enquiries so we can deal with follow-up questions and complaints. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in running the service properly.
  • To understand how the site is used through Google Analytics, only if you accept analytics cookies. Our lawful basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time through the cookie settings link at the foot of every page.

We do not sell your details, add you to marketing lists or use them for automated decisions about you.

Sharing your enquiry with an accountant

With your consent, we send the details from your enquiry to a local accountant or accountancy firm who may be able to help. Once they have your details they become a separate data controller, responsible for how they use your information under their own privacy notice, which they should give you when they contact you. We only share what they need to contact you about your enquiry.

Services that process data for us

We use a small number of suppliers to run the site. They process personal data only on our instructions and under contracts that require them to keep it secure.

  • Bolt (StackBlitz, Inc.) hosts the website.
  • Supabase stores the enquiries sent through the form, in a database that the public cannot read.
  • Brevo sends the email that tells us a new enquiry has arrived.
  • Google provides the email inbox where enquiries are received and, if you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics.
  • Cloudflare runs the domain name, security and email forwarding for accountantinsussex.com.
  • A call handling service may answer calls to 01273 115520 on our behalf.

Some of these suppliers may store or access data outside the UK, including in the United States and the European Economic Area. Where they do, the transfer is covered by UK adequacy regulations or by contractual safeguards approved for use in the UK.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiries, and any notes of calls and emails about them, for up to 12 months from our last contact with you, and then delete them. If you make a complaint, we may keep the related records for longer while it is dealt with. Google Analytics data is kept for 14 months. Your cookie choice is stored in your browser for six months.

How we protect it

The site is served over an encrypted connection, enquiries are stored in a database protected by access rules so that visitors to the site cannot read them, and access to our email and supplier accounts is limited and password protected.

Your rights

You have the right to ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, to ask us to correct it, to ask us to delete it, to ask us to restrict how we use it, to object to how we use it, and to receive it in a portable format. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time. Some rights apply only in certain circumstances.

To use any of these rights, email info@accountantinsussex.com or write to the address above. We will reply within one month. There is no charge in most cases.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, please contact us first so we can try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or by phone on 0303 123 1113.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy, for example if we change suppliers or if an accountancy firm takes on the enquiry service. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
